Fulltext PDFPost heart transplant is a period where the recipient’s body and the donor heart are both in a state of adaptation fraught with several hazards Cardiac transplant recipients have an average of one to three episodes of rejection in the first year after transplantation. Infections remain a significant cause of death after the first year. These infections are the result of a weakened immune system, and can develop from common bacteria and viruses in the community or from uncommon infections.
