Abstract

The traditional herbal (Kampo) medicines are empirically used to treat chronic hypofunction of the gastrointestinal tract. But the action mechanism is not well understood. So, we examined the effects of four Kampo medicines on plasma levels of five neuro peptides. We hypothesized that Ninjinto and Bushi-richu-to might promote peristaltic reflex, Dai-kenchu-to, Ninjin-to, Keishi-ninjin-to, and Bushi-richu-to might have gastro protective effect by increase of mucosal blood flow.
